God is speaking! Are you listening?

God is speaking! Are you listening?

Are you listening?

This is one of the most repeated sentences in our household! Our young boy has developed a condition which causes him to not hear what he is not interested in…

I used to suffer from that when I was young. My wife says I still do now! Funny enough, it hits me most strongly when she mentions it…

Perhaps you can relate, perhaps you have been on either side, perhaps both.

“O foolish ones”

In Luke 24, Jesus meets two of his disciples on the road to Emmaus talking about the disappointing recent turn of events. Jesus had been crucified instead of crowned, slain by the Romans instead of becoming the saviour of the Jews, and now his body is missing!

Jesus replies with: “And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” And beginning with all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.”

These disciples, who knew and had walked with Jesus, were being foolish because they had neglected to believe all that the scriptures said about Jesus. They had not “listened properly” to the message that God had given then, to the Bible (the Tanakh).

Read, Listen, Understand, Believe & Obey

At the beginning of the year we started a 1 year reading plan called Road to Emmaus with the objective of addressing this foolishness that Jesus had pointed out in his disciples, whom he loved.

We realised that some of us have never read the Bible cover-to-cover, some of us don’t read it it regularly, some of us find it difficult to understand and connect all the different books and events. So, considering that, we also realised that our chances of believing and obeying it fully were somewhat compromised.

Lets respond well

If God is calling you to listen, don’t put your fingers in your ears. Make a commitment today to be in His word daily. Join us in the Road to Emmaus reading plan or start your own plan. Here is a list of plans you could do Through the Bible.

It doesn’t matter if we are half way through the year or at the beginning. Start today!
