Thanksgiving – What a Year for Matt Kottman!

Thanksgiving – What a Year for Matt Kottman!

Thanksgiving Dinner

Last year at Thanksgiving, my life changed. My mom had sent me an email saying that she thinks she found my dad. I had never met my dad and I had no idea she had been looking for him (although she had been looking on and off for 36 years!).

She sent me a picture that she Facebook-stalked of one of my dad’s sons (below). I saw the picture and thought, “Wow! We look so much alike.” We had Thanksgiving dinner with some close friends, and I showed them the picture and they all said, “This has to be your brother Matt.”

Fast forward to January

When it was confirmed that this man was my father. More than that, we attended the same church for a year back in 1993-1994, and later we both became pastors in the Calvary Chapel movement. I also gained two new brothers, two new sisters-in-law, four nieces and nephews, and another mom, all thanks to God’s grace and my amazing mom’s perseverance.

Today

Dianna and I were talking and we were amazed at how quickly things can change. We truly do not know what a day holds. This reminder excites me about today and tomorrow. What does God have in store? I do not know, but I do know that I have so much to be thankful for. Praise God for his faithfulness and unceasing love and care. What are you thankful for today?
